Non-Profit Management
Training Program
Please note that as of January 1998, the Non-Profit
Management Training Program is operated by the Fund for International
Development (FIND). Please contact Dale Needles or Nancy Wiltsek at
find@igc.org.
The Nonprofit Management Training Program's mission is to provide
leaders of nonprofit organizations in the former Soviet Union with
training in the management skills necessary to grow and strengthen
those agencies and the emerging nonprofit sector in the former Soviet
Union. The program also seeks to build linkages between American
and Russian nonprofits, as well as support horizontal ties among
the Russian organizations themselves.
A typical delegation of eight Russian Nonprofit
managers hosted in counterpart American organizations.
Program Activities:
- Four-week intensive management training internships at American
nonprofit organizations of a similar profile.
- Seminars on specific skills such as fundraising, foundation
research, organizational development, program planning, budget
development, governance and volunteer recruitment, both in the
US and Russia.
- The opportunity to apply for small grants to improve organizational
capacity and effectiveness.
- Consultations by American nonprofit experts in Russia.
Beneficiaries:
The Nonprofit Management Training Program targets managers of health,
education and social service organizations that have been in existence
for at least one year. Candidates are selected based on the genuine
need for their organization's services, the quality of the services
provided and their ability to communicate well in English. The program
works with nonprofit organizations in Moscow and St. Petersburg only.
American nonprofit organizations are recruited to participate based
on the overall quality of their management and the capacity of the
Executive Director (or his/her designate) to meet the training needs
of the intern.
Funding:
The Nonprofit Management Training Program began in 1994. It is made
possible through substantial donations of time, expertise, housing,
and transportation by US volunteers and nonprofit organizations; private
donations; and a generous grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
